Man charged with DUI after hitting police car

July 19, 2010 News No Comments

A 29-year-old man was jailed on drunken driving charges early today after he hit a state police cruiser in Rehoboth Beach.

No one was injured.  He was charged with DUI, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to yield, improper lane change, leaving the scene of a property collision crash, failure to provide information at a collision scene and failure to have vehicle registration, insurance identification and drivers license in his possession.

The incident occurred about 1:15 a.m. at Coastal Highway and Annie-B Street, in Rehoboth, said state police spokesman Cpl. Bruce Harris.

State police Cpl. Kyle Archer was driving south on Coastal Highway when a 1998 Subaru Legacy, operated by Herlihy, attempted to turn south onto Coastal Highway from Annie-B Street. The Subaru then hit the driver’s side mirror of the police cruiser and kept on going.

The officer then activated the patrol car’s emergency equipment and stopped him a short distance away and arrested him.
